Hunks In Heels 2019

This year’s Hunks in Heels included a rock star, a kilt, a financial adviser in wedges, a healthcare marketing rep wearing a pair of 6” pink stilettos, a USAF veteran sporting black suede boots, a community relations and human resources manager, Rocky Balboa “A.D.A.” jumping rope, an “Up” wannabe wearing turquoise open-toed sandals, a landscaper in strappy heels, a grandfather-grandson realtor team in matching black velvet sandals and one smooth pair of pink, satin sandals! What did they all have in common? All of these Hunks volunteered to “Shoe Up, Step Up and Speak Up” against domestic violence in support of Iva’s Place. Every year Iva’s Place holds “Hunks in Heels”, our largest fundraising event and one of our largest venues for educating people on the services offered by Iva’s Place to protect and serve victims of domestic violence. Our Hunks in Heels walked the catwalk to a sellout crowd and thanks to our very special guest, Radio Talk Show Host and Emcee, Ms. Valerie Anderton and Auctioneer, Mr. Marty Fugate, the Hunk’s Heels were auctioned off to the highest bidders just before trophies were awarded to the three coveted positions: Best Shoe in Show, Mr. Altitude with Attitude and Mr. Hunk in Heels 2020.

But before the Hunks made their appearance, we were given the gift of hearing from our Guest Speaker, Ms. Felecia Vincil. Felecia shared her personal story of hope and triumph over domestic violence and how a program like Iva’s Place could have helped her when her when she needed a safe place to go and therapy to help her understand the dynamics of intimate partner violence. Felecia hoped her experience would inspire other victims of abuse to seek help and to understand that even though the journey is hard, you can make it and life can be better!
