Our vision
is for all people to be able to live their lives free from violence and abuse and feel safe and secure in their relationships.
Our History
After practicing medicine in Lenoir City for some period of time, Dr. Jan Hahn began treating many women with injuries resulting from domestic violence and when asked about how to help these victims, he soon discovered there were few resources for this population of victims. So, in 1991 Dr. Hahn and other concerned citizens, launched the organization initially called “IVAS, Crisis Center for Women” to provide a resource to victims of domestic violence. In 2008, the 501c3 crisis center was renamed “Iva’s Place, Inc.” with a continued dedication to making a significant impact on ending domestic violence and providing safe stays to victims experiencing domestic violence.
Iva’s Place has continued to expand its program and services and now offers services to victims of domestic violence through any one of our multiple levels of care: Safe Haven Shelter, Transitional Apartments and Transitional Housing. Our Safe Haven Shelter provides immediate placement to victims of domestic violence that are in eminent danger and must flee their home in order to avoid continued acts of domestic violence.
We are Committed to
- helping survivors of domestic violence put the shattered pieces of their lives back together through the provision of our comprehensive client focused, trauma informed services;
- helping survivors of domestic violence of all ages at no cost;
- raising awareness in our community about domestic violence and its prevalence.
Iva’s Place is a 501c3 nonprofit that has provided services, advocacy and placement to victims of domestic violence since 1991. Iva’s Place provides support, advocacy and accompaniment for all victims of domestic violence being served through our Safe Haven Shelter, Transitional Apartments and Transitional Housing Programs. Our mission statement “To provide a comprehensive system of support to victims of domestic violence” is accomplished through our multi-levels of care and the services provided at each level of care.
Iva’s Place serves victims of domestic violence in the following ways: Emergency placement through our Safe Haven Shelter, Crisis Intervention, 24 Crisis Hotline, Transportation, Legal Advocacy and Court Accompaniment, Life-skills and Educational Classes, Medical transportation and advocacy, Academic and Educational Institutional advocacy, Educational and supportive activities for children, Education and support groups for adult and child victims of sexual assault/incest and domestic violence receiving services through our Safe Haven Shelter, Evidence-based, trauma informed Therapy to victims of domestic violence and childhood trauma, Community based referrals and information. Through our Transitional Housing Program, we can provide housing, for a period of up to 24 months, to families that have been forced to relocate due to domestic violence. These families have access to the same services offered to families being served through our Safe Haven Shelter, must participate in monthly program requirements, must fall within the HUD income guidelines, and have a financial stream as the Transitional properties carry monthly fiscal responsibilities.
Iva’s Place conducts community outreach by providing information and referrals to community agencies, conducts professional and volunteer trainings, and provides community based presentations on the definition of Domestic Violence, the prevalence of Domestic Violence, how communities can work together to address Domestic Violence, the importance of partnering with law enforcement, red flag behaviors of an unhealthy relationship and where to go for help if ever in a relationship with an abuser.
Iva’s Place is the only multi-level Domestic Violence Program of its kind in the state of Tennessee. We serve Loudon County as well as surrounding counties.
